Deltarune’s Final Three Chapters Will be Released Together and Won’t be Free

"It's hard both for creators and fans to go a long time without a release," developer Toby Fox acknowledges following Chapter 2's launch.

Undertale was and remains a sensation, so getting to play more of its off-beat follow-up Deltarune is always a treat as well. That said, its release cadence hasn’t exactly been the most frequent. Deltarune Chapter 2 just recently launched for PC and Mac, but it came almost a full three years three years after the first chapter came out- which is quite a huge gap, and makes one wonder just how long it’ll be before the entire game is finished.

In an update following Chapter 2’s launch though, developer Toby Fox briefly touched on that topic, and confirmed that the next (and final) three chapters of Deltarune will follow a different release schedule. Fox confirms that chapters 3, 4, and 5 of the game will all be released together so that there aren’t huge gaps between their releases, and also added that unlike the first two chapters of the game, they won’t be free (and will collectively cost more than Undertale, though an exact figure hasn’t yet been decided).

“Originally I had planned to release chapters only when all them are finished, but honestly, it’s hard both for creators and fans to go a long time without a release,” Fox wrote. “So, I changed my mind. I think most people will be happy about this.

“My next goal is to complete Chapters 3, 4 and 5 for next time. Then, at that time I will ask for people to buy the game, at the price of the first 5 chapters (including 1 and 2). I don’t know the price yet, but it’s definitely going to cost more than Undertale.”

Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait too long before we get to play more of Deltarune– though of course, more than that, we hope that whenever the next chunk of the game does arrive, it’s worth however long we have to wait for it.

Chapter 1 of Deltarune is available on PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, and PS4, but Chapter 2 hasn’t yet launched for the latter two. There’s no word yet on when (or if) the game will come to Xbox.
