Even with numerous controversies throughout the year, which lead to high-level departures and CEO Bobby Kotick cutting his salary, Activision-Blizzard still thrived in Q3 2021. In its latest financial report for July 1st to September 30th, it earned $1.2 billion in revenue solely from microtransactions across all titles. This is before the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard, which causes a significant spike in business for the publisher.

Seasonal content for Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are likely to thank along with Call of Duty: Mobile which crossed 500 million downloads in May. Net revenue for the quarter totaled $2.07 billion, which is higher than the $1.97 billion projected previously. It’s not all good news though as monthly active users is stagnant at 26 million compared to the previous quarter.

This isn’t including news like Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 being delayed into fiscal year 2023 or Blizzard co-leader Jen Oneal leaving the company after only three months at the helm. Time will tell if things can improve so stay tuned in the coming months.
