Grim Dawn Definitive Edition

Crate Entertainment’s Grim Dawn‘s Xbox version has just been released in the form of Grim Dawn: Definitive Edition to mixed critical reception. Critics have pointed at the game’s subpar visual quality and performance when compared to its PC counterpart, to which a developer at the studio has responded with a statement.

In a post on Reddit, the developer stated that the game running on “higher than” High settings. Furthermore, thye said that Grim Dawn’s Definitive Edition was advertised as a 1080p 30 fps game in the first place, and that the game’s Xbox Series X version doesn’t have a framerate cap, although they go on to say that they cannot verify this since they themselves don’t have an Xbox Series X to test the game on.

“The game runs on High settings, or higher. We openly said the game targets 1080p at 30fps, so if someone is going to try to scare people off because it does exactly what was advertised, I’m not sure what to say to that,” the dev said, as spotted by Pure Xbox.

They added: “I was informed that the fps is unlocked, and I’ll trust the word of our programmer on that. I can’t verify for myself what that means in practice as I don’t have a Series X so I’m not going to make outlandish claims. That said, we’ve already committed to squeezing out more from the Series S/X consoles when we have a dev kit. I wish we had the pull of a AAA studio to get one of those years ago, but we do not. We are on the waiting list to receive ONE dev kit, which will hopefully happen sooner rather than later.”

The developer said in another message: “If you have any doubts about our work, you can simply scroll through 5 years of Grim Dawn updates to see where we stand on our commitment to our products.

“But please don’t base your purchase decision off of misleading information.”

Grim Dawn’s PC version stands at a rating of 83 on Metacritic, and it’s certainly great that Xbox owners are getting to experience the game at all. However, given the current situation, it would be appreciated if the game gets updated to take full advantage of the hardware.
