Sony promised a focus on upcoming PlayStation games by Japanese developers for their State of Play March showcase, and we certainly got that, with new announcements from Square Enix closing out the presentation. The first of these was The DioField Chronicle.
What exactly is it? A new tactical RPG, but one that seems to be setting it apart from most other games in the genre- a real-time tactical battle system. As you’d expect from a new RPG coming from Square Enix, there’s a heavy emphasis on story and worldbuilding as well, and the game’s announcement trailer goes into all of that, the gameplay (particularly the battles), and more. Visually, it’s looking a little rough around the edges, but while the game is looking lacking in terms of fidelity, its art style does seem to hold some promise. Check out what it looks like in the trailer below.
The DioField Chronicle will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC later this year, though a specific release date hasn’t yet been announced.
