Hogwarts Legacy

WB Games Avalanche and Portkey Games finally showcased Hogwarts Legacy in all of its glory in a special PlayStation State of Play. This includes the setting, story set-up, combat, exploration and different things that players can do. It’s also confirmed to be releasing holiday 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.

Set during the 1800s, the player character enters Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry but as a fifth year due to their unique circumstances. Ancient magic has returned and there are forces out there trying to harness it. The player can sense and possibly wield lead, and they must eventually make a decision that will affect the wizarding world.

Along with customizing their own character, they go through the house sorting ceremony and are assigned a dorm. This is where players may interact with their classmates and hangout. There are plenty of classes to attend though from Herbology and Charms to Potions.

You can also venture beyond the castle to Hogsmeade and meet different vendors for supplies (like magical seeds, recipes and gear) or battle various dark witches and wizards. Various missions can also be undertaken along with magical puzzles created by Merlin that can be solved out in the world.

You can also encounter Magical Beasts roaming about, some corrupted by darkness and others at the risk of poachers. They can be rescued and then healed in the Room of Requirement. Dungeons and Vaults also exist, filled with “perilous threats and untold rewards.” It also seems that the morality system allows one to stray to the dark side and learn spells like the forbidden Avada Kadavara.

Stay tuned for more details on the title in the coming months.
