Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 was recently supposed to close down its servers for a round of scheduled maintenance for about an hour, but when Polyphony Digital discovered an issue with update 1.07 of the game, which had launched shortly before that, the developer announced it was extending the maintenance period.

Surprisingly, servers were down for over 24 hours after that, leaving the game – which requires players to be connected to its servers to access the vast majority of its content – unplayable, with no further communication arriving for Polyphony Digital.

Thankfully, it seems whatever went wrong has finally been fixed. Servers are back online and the game is playable again, and with this arrives patch 1.08, which is largely focused on fixing the issue that caused the server outage. You can check out those patch notes below.

Meanwhile, series producer, director, and Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi has also published an update in which he explains what caused the aforementioned issue.

“I wanted to explain what happened in this update,” he writes. “Immediately before the release of the 1.07 update, we discovered an issue where the game would not start properly in some cases on product versions for the PS4 and PS5.

“This was a rare issue that was not seen during tests on the development hardware or the QA sessions prior to the release, but in order to prioritize the safety of the save data of the users, we decided to interrupt the release of the 1.07 update, and to make a 1.08 correctional update.

“This is the reason for the delay. My sincere apologies for the late report to everyone.”

Gran Turismo 7 is available on PS5 and PS4.

UPDATE 1.08 PATCH NOTES:

  • Fixed an issue wherein the lineup of cars would not appear in the Used Cars and Legend Cars dealerships.
  • Fixed an issue wherein in some cases the game would not progress to the World Map, making it impossible to play.
