Nintendo recently delayed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s sequel out of 2022 into early next year, but the publisher’s now done the opposite with another major upcoming Switch exclusive. Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which was given a September launch window when it was announced earlier this year, has been given a release date- and it’s coming sooner than you think.

Nintendo and developer Monolith Soft have announced that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will launch on July 29. A new trailer of the game has been revealed as well, offering deeper glimpses at the game’s story, world, characters, combat, and more. Specifically where combat is concerned, several new details have been shared as well.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will have a core cast of six characters, each of them being playable, while additional characters that you encounter during the story will be playable as well. “Each character has their own role in battle, which allows for diverse strategies,” Nintendo says.

Characters will fall in different classes. Noah, for instance, is a Swordfighter and specializes in up-close combat, while Mio, a Zephyr, focuses on drawing enemy attention while evading their strikes. Character classes can also be changed as you progress further in the story, offering greater party customization.

The big new mechanic here, however, is the new Interlink system. The six core characters are divided into three tag-team pairs- Noah and Mio, Lanz and Sena, Eunie and Taion. Upon meeting certain conditions, these pairs can combine and transform into a giant form called Ouroboros, with each of these having unique strengths and abilities.

Check it all out in action in the trailer below.

A Special Edition for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has also been unveiled. Read more on that through here.
