God of War Ragnarok Studio Speaks Out Against Toxic Reactions from “Fans” Following Alleged Announcement Delay

"Our fans inspire us, and we understand the passion and desire for more information. But that passion should not be toxic nor come at the expense of any human being's dignity," says SIE Santa Monica Studio.

Recent leaks led the internet to believe that God of War Ragnarok’s release date was going to be announced on June 30, but it soon emerged that while such an announcement had allegedly been planned, it ended up getting delayed. While feeling a little disappointed is, of course, understandable, it unsurprisingly turns out that many in the series’ “fanbase” have reacted with toxicity and in some pretty heinous fashion. Thankfully, developer SIE Santa Monica Studio has issued a statement in response.

Taking recently to Twitter, the developer thanked fans for their excitement and passion for the game in a statement via its official page, but added that while that excitement is, of course, appreciated, it’s only appreciated when it comes in a healthy, positive, and respectful form.

“Our fans inspire us, and we understand the passion and desire for more information,” the statement reads. “But that passion should not be toxic nor come at the expense of any human being’s dignity.”

It’s sad that this even has to be said, but if there’s one thing the internet has taught us, it’s that a certain section of the crowd will always stoop surprisingly low. Here’s hoping that’s not an issue going forward, as naive as it might be to hope for that.

For those who are keenly waiting for more details on God of War Ragnarok (and aren’t being pricks about it), details on its Collector’s Editions were recently leaked, while recent reports have claimed that the game is still very much on track for a November launch.
