A little over a year ago, Ubisoft officially confirmed that its Montreal and Quebec studios were together working on Assassin’s Creed Infinitythe next major step forward for its flagship open world franchise. While details on the game from official channels have been few and far between, a report last year from Bloomberg claimed that it would be a live service platform for the series with multiple games and settings featured within its framework, and more added over the course of months and years.

Now, more recent reports have maybe started shedding some light on what at least one of those settings is going to be. In a recently published report on Kotaku, it’s been claimed that one of the Assassin’s Creed games Ubisoft has in the works right now is being internally referred to as Project Red, and is going to be set somewhere in Asia. Journalist Jason Schreier, author of the aforementioned Bloomberg report, has taken to Twitter and stated that Project Red is part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

This follows recent reports of Assassin’s Creed Infinity having Japan as one of its settings. While the Kotaku report is unable to corroborate those claims, it does state that Ubisoft is well aware of how heavily Japan has been demanded by Assassin’s Creed fans as a setting over the years, and has been discussed internally.

Interestingly, Assassin’s Creed Infinity is allegedly not the only major Assassin’s Creed project in development. According to reports, another game, called Rift, is going to launch before Infinity and will be set in Baghdad. Read more on that through here.

As for when we’ll be hearing concrete and official details about the series, it’s not going to be too long of a wait. Ubisoft has scheduled a Forward event for September 10, and the company has confirmed that that’s where it’ll be talking about the future of Assassin’s Creed, among other things.
