"Some players may want to have slightly fewer voices to concentrate on the action at different points," said co-direct Takefumi Terada.

Luminous Productions’ Forspoken is shaping up ahead of its early release next year, with new previews dropping and providing fresh gameplay footage. The developer has been “fine-tuning” the dialogue exchanges between Frey and her sentient bracelet Cuff. However, if it still feels too much, co-director Takefumi Terada confirmed to Eurogamer that players can adjust their frequency.

“In terms of the conversations between Frey and Cuff, the frequency that they talk to each other can be adjusted from the accessibility menu. We’ve put a lot of effort into that dialogue and the character building through the conversations they have there, so we want people to pay attention to that and hope people enjoy it,” said Terada.

“But at the same time, we do understand that there is a need there depending on how you play the game. Some players may want to have slightly fewer voices to concentrate on the action at different points, so we’re allowing you to do that too if you want.”

Terada also recently confirmed that Forspoken’s story would take about 30 to 40 hours to complete. Outside of cutscenes, that’s a lot of conversation between Frey and Cuff that the player could miss out on when traversing the world. Nevertheless, the option is there for those who want it. Whether the dialogue exchanges can be disabled altogether remains to be seen.

Forspoken releases on January 24th, 2023, for PS5 and PC. It will appear at Tokyo Game Show 2022 on Eiko Kano’s Critikano Hit Tokyo Game Show 2022 Special Episode at 6 AM PST on September 16th. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.
