Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, during a recent earnings call, has revealed that despite the critical success of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, commercially, the game hasn’t done quite as well as the publisher would like.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Scchreier, Zelnick believes that the game’s release window of December 2022 might have had something to do with the game not selling as well at launch. Zelnick also believes that, like other Firaxis titles like the XCOM series, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will likely enjoy a long tail in terms of sales.
Firaxis recently started its rollout of planned DLC for Marvel’s Midnight Suns starting with the release of Deadpool as a playable character in January. The DLC also adds a new story, along with new enemies to fight.
Director Jake Solomon also recently revealed that the studio isn’t currently working on a new XCOM game yet, and that its full attention is currently on Marvel’s Midnight Suns and its post-launch support.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions set to arrive later. For more details, check out our review.
Some news: Marvel's Midnight Suns was a critical success but a commercial flop. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told me in an interview this afternoon that "it's possible the release window wasn't perfect" but that he thinks it could have a long tail, like other Firaxis games
