As an RPG game, gold is a valuable commodity in Hogwarts Legacy and is never in abundance. There are endless lists of items to buy once the game begins. Moreover, to progress in the story, you’ll need to spend a considerable amount of gold on upgrades and items alone.

Unfortunately, the game doesn’t provide many options to earn gold, and selling items or ingredients in bulk isn’t an option. The only items you can sell are gear pieces, and you’ll have limited inventory space for those. To make gold quickly in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to be efficient, and this guide will provide tips to help you achieve that goal. Let’s get started!

The basic of Galleon Farming in Hogwarts Legacy

There are three farming methods in Hogwarts Legacy: opening chests, selling gear, and a late-game strategy. The first two are for early-game, while the third is for later on.

Selling Gear

  • You have only 20 gear slots, so there is no use for older gear once you find something new and powerful.
  • Always sell older gear instead of destroying it.
  • Selling gear can earn you around 90-160 gold coins.
  • Selling gear is worth it, especially during the early game when every coin counts.

Opening Eye Chests

  • Eye Chests can be opened to quickly farm gold.
  • Each chest rewards 500 Galleons, which can help build a small fortune in the small-mid game.
  • Disillusionment spell is needed to approach and open the Eye Chests.
  • Lockpicking spell allows you to break into houses in Hogsmeade and loot chests, but this method is not repeatable.
  • Eye Chests offer a one-time reward, so spend your gold wisely.

Catching Magical Beasts

  • Trading Magical Beasts is the best way to farm gold in Hogwarts Legacy
  • All Magical Beasts can be traded for 120 coins, regardless of their difficulty
  • Puffskeins are the easiest Magical Beasts to farm and can be found near Hogsmeade
  • You can catch up to 10 or more Puffskeins in a few minutes and sell them in bulk for 1,200 coins or more
  • Upgrade Levioso so that you can stun multiple beasts at once
  • After clearing out a den, leave it to let the beasts respawn (which takes 3 days)
  • Use fast travel to go to Hogwarts or Hogsmeade during the respawn time, or hunt other creatures in neighboring regions.

Ask NPCs for Extra Reward Money

  • After completing a mission, ask NPCs for extra gold as a reward without hesitation.
  • Choosing this option won’t affect your storyline or gameplay.
  • There is no penalty for asking for extra coins, as upgrades can be expensive.
