Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty PC Errors And Fixes – Stutters, Poor Performance, and More

Koei Tecmo has been having somewhat of a rough quarter when it comes to PC ports. First, there was Omega Force’s WILD HEARTS, launching with stuttering issues, poor performance and some annoying bugs. Team Ninja’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has suffered the same fate, receiving negative reviews on Steam due to terrible keyboard and mouse support, performance issues, etc.

While some issues can’t be fixed (like the terrible keyboard and mouse controls) without official updates, there are workarounds for others.

PC Requirements

First, let’s take a look at the PC requirements. Based on feedback from players, performance issues are random – some RTX 30 series users are having trouble, while others with lower specs are doing fine. Regardless, ensure that your system meets or surpasses the requirements before playing.

In both configurations, you’ll need Windows 10/11 (64-bit), DirectX 12 and 60 GB of available installation space. A hard-disk drive will suffice in both cases.

Minimum Requirements (for 720p/30 FPS at Best Performance settings):

• CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3400G
• Memory: 8 GB RAM
• GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 570 (4 GB)

Recommended Requirements (for 1080p/60 FPS at Standard graphics settings)

• CPU: Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
• Memory: 16 GB RAM
• GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 (6 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 5700XT (8 GB)

Based on the developer’s internal testing, 2160p/60 FPS is possible with a GeForce RTX 3080 (12 GB) on Standard graphics settings. It also revealed that 1080p/120 FPS is possible with an Intel Core i9-12900 and GeForce RTX 3090 (24 GB) on Best Performance settings. It’d probably be safer to wait for more updates before attempting either option.

Poor Performance

Ensure that your graphics drivers are updated by going to the official sites for Nvidia or AMD. Next, go to Nvidia Control Panel (if you’re on a GeForce GPU) and locate 3D settings. Add Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s .exe file and then look for the option to lock the frame rate. Load up the game and turn off V-Sync. It should improve performance, or at least keep it stable. Again, your mileage may vary.

Another suggestion is to open Task Manager, find Wo Long in the list, right-click on it and change the priority to “Real Time.” You then go into the game and switch to 60 FPS. The jury’s out on how effective this is, so temper your expectations.

Stuttering Issues

As ridiculous as the stuttering can be, there’s an equally ridiculous suggestion for fixing it. Reddit user Dope2TheDrop revealed that keyboard and mouse inputs while in-game will result in massive stutters. Whether you’re trying to play with a keyboard and mouse or just navigating menus, the game stutters.

The only real solution is playing with a controller and avoiding keyboard/mouse inputs. Some have suggested disconnecting the latter so as not to make any accidental inputs. It’s probably more of a bug than anything else, so hopefully, Team Ninja will patch it soon.
