Ubisoft has laid off 60 employees from its offices in North Carolina and Newcastle, UK. The lay-offs seem to have been largely focused on the company’s customer service department. Employees have since taken to Twitter to confirm the cuts, with some revealing that the layoffs came with no indication or preparation.

In a statement, the company said that the cuts are part of its attempt to bring some organizational changes that would allow it to focus on offering consistent support to players.

“Ubisoft’s Customer Relation Center team is evolving its organization to focus on where we can have a significant impact while remaining steadfast in our commitment to consistently support our players anywhere in the world.” said Ubisoft in the statement. “We estimate that, due to organizational changes, 60 team members from our offices in Cary, North Carolina in the US and Newcastle in the UK could be impacted.”

Ubisoft has been seeing quite a bit of difficulties with some of its titles. Rumours from back in April indicate that the company was working on a battle royale game based on the Splinter Cell setting, which was cancelled “weeks” before it was to be announced.

On the other hand, the company has revealed its plans for the future of some of its other games, including The Division 2, and The Division: Heartland. The company has also been working on its multiplayer shooter XDefiant, which it states will be supported “for a long time”.
