Overwatch 2

When Overwatch 2 was announced in 2019, Blizzard billed its new PvE narrative-driven missions as one of the sequel’s biggest selling points, though upon its launch last year, the shooter featured only its PvP component, while the developer continued to work on the PvE mode, titled, Hero Mode, with the intention of adding it to the game later.

However, Blizzard Entertainment has announced a change in plans for what Overwatch 2’s upcoming PvE content will look like. During a recent stream where the developer offered details on the game’s roadmap for upcoming content, it revealed that Hero Mode has been cancelled, as are its reworked progression system and the features that would have gone along with it.

That said, while the open-ended structure of Hero Mode has been shelved, new story missions – which will take the form of the kind of PvE events Overwatch fans will be quite familiar with – will be arriving during season 6 (season 4 launched last month).

Meanwhile, across seasons 5, 6, and 7, Overwatch 2 will also be adding new events and limited time events, maps, heroes (with a Support hero arriving in season 6 and a Tank hero in season 7), reworks for Roadhog and Sombra in season 7, cinematic reveals, and more. Other additions will include creator workshop mode in season 5, a firing range and a player progression system in season 6, and a lore codex in season 7, among other things. You can check out the full roadmap below.

Overwatch 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
