Since announcing RoboCop: Rogue City a couple of years ago, developer Teyon and publisher Nacon have been largely quiet about the first person shooter, barring showing a few gameplay trailers here and there, but with its launch in September approaching quickly, that’s beginning to ramp up. Courtesy of a hands-on preview uploaded by IGN, roughly 10 minutes of new RoboCop: Rogue City have emerged, offering plenty of new details on the title.

Set between the events of the second and third movies, RoboCop: Rogue City will begin with a gang known as Torchheads, who are addicted to the narcotic Nuke, attack the Channel 9 headquarters and take it hostage, leading to RoboCop and his partner Agent Anne Lewis being asked to step in and resolve the situation.

Combat, as you would expect, is brutal and violent, and RoboCop himself as, appropriately enough, been described as a walking tank. He has slow and heavy movements, and is able to soak up incredible amounts of damage, with the preview pointing out that in the early section that IGN played, there was little to no challenge involved. It remains to be seen how that will evolve over the course of the rest of the game, which supposedly offers a 25-30 hour-long campaign.

Robocop can also use crunching melee attacks and also has a scanning ability, using which he can instantly pinpoint enemies in the environment. Meanwhile, outside of combat, players will be able to engage with a variety of side quests, many of which will be tied to investigative objectives that will see you looking for clues at crime scenes and making arrests. Players will also be able to listen in on conversations between NPCs to pick up new clues, or occasionally even open up new side objectives.

Meanwhile, though combat is obviously going to be a big part of the experience, RoboCop: Rogue City will seemingly also place quite a bit of emphasis on story choices and dialogue trees. Players will be able to resolve certain situations peacefully through dialogue options if they wish, while certain skill tree upgrades will also unlock new dialogue choices in conversations. Interacting with NPCs and completing quests will also earn you the trust of Detroit’s inhabitants.

RoboCop: Rogue City is set to launch sometime in September for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is also in the works.
