The Prince of Persia franchise has been put through the wringer these last few years, but it seems Ubisoft is ready to bring it back- perhaps in ways that not many would have expected. While it remains to be seen exactly how long it’ll be before we see the rebooted Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake next, we will be getting another game in the series before that.

At Summer Game Fest, Ubisoft unveiled Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a new 2D sidescrolling action platformer that looks like it’ll be putting a modern twist on the series’ classic sidescrolling formula. Interestingly enough, the game was mentioned in leaks last year, which stated it would be inspired by the Ori games.

It has, of course, been a while since we last got a 2D Prince of Persia game, but the gameplay footage showcased in the announce trailer certainly looks promising, as does the stylized art style. Check out the trailer below.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is out on January 18, 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. We’ll be seeing more of the game at Ubisoft Forward on June 12.
