There’s no shortage of rumours going around right now about upcoming hardware releases, from Nintendo’s next-gen console to a PS5 model with a detachable disc drive to even a PS5 Pro. Unsurprisingly, it seems Xbox has joined the fray on that front as well.

According to XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker, Microsoft might have a discless version of the Xbox Series X in the pipeline. Speaking recently during the XboxEra Podcast, Baker said that based on what he’s heard from “a couple” of sources, Microsoft is “looking into” a digital-only version of the Xbox Series X.

Of course, currently, the Xbox Series S does provide a digital-only option for Microsoft’s current-gen console ecosystem, though it does come with relatively weaker hardware. Earlier in the year, Microsoft also unveiled a new Xbox Series S varian with an expanded 1 TB internal storage, which is set to launch on September 1.

Baker has also claimed that Microsoft has additional plans for “other hardware” in 2025, though what that hardware will be remains to be seen. While some will be hoping for a handheld Xbox device – even if it’s something along the lines of PlayStation’s upcoming Project Q – there’s also a good chance that it ends up being some form of an accessory, or something that falls outside the Xbox console ecosystem.

When we might start hearing concrete details on this is up in the air for now, but we’ll keep an eye out for more details, so stay tuned for further updates.
