There have been some major changes behind the scenes at Epic Games in recent weeks. Recently, it was announced that chief creative officer Donald Mustard was leaving the company, to be replaced by Charlie Wen, a former Marvel and God of War vet. Now, another key figure at the company has announced his departure.

Epic Games’ director of publishing strategy, Sergiy Galyonkin, has announced that he is stepping down from his role after eight years at the company. In a message published on Twitter, Galyonkin said that with Epic now headed in a new direction where it’s looking to turn itself into an industry-wide platform, he no longer feels he is “a good fit for this new version of Epic.”

“It requires people of a different kind,” he wrote, and added, “I plan to remain in the gaming industry. I also hope to be more vocal now that I don’t have to worry about the PR department knocking on my DMs.”

In his message, Galyonkin spoke about his work on Fortnite, as well as the Epic Games Store, which “challenged the status quo in game distribution with the 88/12 revenue share”, while also highlighting Epic’s donations to charities in Ukraine in early 2022.

Last week, it was reported that Epic Games was laying off 16% of its workforce, which translates to about 830 employees. It was reported that Fall Guys developer Mediatonic had also been affected by the layoffs, but Epic has said that continued development on the multiplayer title remains a “company priority.”
