CD Projekt has made it abundantly clear that it plans to expand the Cyberpunk franchise in more ways than one, and while that does obviously include Project OrionCyberpunk 2077’s sequel, which is currently in the conceptual design stage of development – the company also has additional transmedia projects planned.

One of those was announced in October in the form of Cyberpunk live action project, which is being developed in collaboration with Anonymous Content (which has previously worked on True Detective, Mr. Robot, Crime and Punishment, and more). But when can we expect the project to premier?

According to CD Projekt’s chief commercial officer Michał Nowakowski, it won’t be until 2025 at the earliest. Speaking during the company’s recent earnings conference about its plans to expand the Cyberpunk IP, Nowakowski said that in addition to the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, CD Projekt is also working on the previously announced live action project. According to Nowakowski, though the project is “going to be developed or moved in the direction” next year, it won’t release in 2024.

“In terms of promotional activities, there is the Ultimate Edition launching soon, but when it comes to the Cyberpunk IP we’re going to be nurturing it and developing it through activities going outside of the game as well,” he said (transcription via IGN). “We’re not really discussing specifics here but one of the obvious things that we have announced, not happening next year, but going to be developed or moved in the direction next year, is the project we have announced with Anonymous Content.”

Further details on the project are currently scant, including whether it will be a television series or film.

In October, CD Projekt also confirmed that it has additional projects planned with Studio Trigger, the studio that developed 2022’s widely acclaimed and successful anime adaptation, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

CD Projekt has also announced that the recently released Cyberpunk expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has now sold over 4.3 million units worldwide.
