During a recent livestream, developer NetherRealm Studios revealed that it is working on releasing cross-play multiplayer for Mortal Kombat 1 in the coming months. While the studio was unable to develop the feature in time for the game’s launch back in September, it has stated that the feature will be coming to the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Mortal Kombat 1 in February.

The studio is working on a host of multiplayer features for Mortal Kombat 1. Alongside cross-play, the studio has stated that it has also been working on allowing players to filter against players playing the game online through Wi-Fi, allowing players to instead only match with those on hardline Internet connections in a bid to avoid lag and disconnections.

Earlier this month, NetherRealm co-founder confirmed that a story-based DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 is also in the works at the studio. Speaking to Brazilian publication Omelete, Bonne stated that a DLC is in the works with more story, and that the studio has a big surprise planned for after its release.

Mortal Kombat 1 is out on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. The game is currently gearing up for its next DLC character, Quan Chi, who is coming to the game on December 21.
