Namco Bandai wins lawsuit against CD Projekt RED, publishing The Witcher 2 Xbox 360 outside of US

When The Witcher 2 developers announced some time ago that they had signed a publishing deal of their game’s Xbox 360 port in European regions and announced that DRM would no longer be included in the game, publishers of the original PC version, Namco Bandai, filed a lawsuit against CD Projekt RED. A French court, however, has ruled in favour of Namco.

A Lyonnese court has commanded CDPR to offer a publishing and distribution deal for The Witcher 2 Xbox 360 to Namco Bandai in the next fifteen days, or pay fines of €15,000 each day thereafter.

“We are not satisfied with the end of the verdict. The most important thing for us is, however, ending the dispute,” CD Projekt RED’s Marcin Iwinski said. CDPR had earlier argued that the publishing deal with Namco had only been for the PC version, but to no avail.

Iwinski then went on to explain that the deal with THQ was still in its early stages and that it wouldn’t cost much to cancel it.

However, CDPR’s publishing deal with Warner Bros. in US is still on.

The Witcher 2 Xbox 360 releases early next year. Stay tuned for more coverage.
