It was recently announced that Embracer Group is selling Gearbox Entertainment to Take-Two Interactive for $460 million, but though the Borderlands developer is escaping the grasp of a company that has been in love with layoffs this past year, it’s still been hit with a fresh round of layoffs nonetheless.

As caught by Insider Gaming, within hours of the announcement that Gearbox had been sold to Take-Two, numerous members of the developer’s staff took to social media to reveal that they had been laid off, with a number of PR roles seemingly being affected.

PR Manager Jennifer Locke wrote on Twitter that she was among “countless others” that had lost their jobs, while Director of Public Relations Steve Prince confirmed on LinkedIn that he, too, had been laid off.

“Following the exciting news of the Take-Two Interactive & Gearbox Entertainment merger last night, I, like many others, received the unfortunate news this morning that our positions would no longer be required,” Chris Harada, Director of Online Engagement, wrote on LinkedIn.

The full extent of the layoffs, how many people have lost their jobs, and which departments have been affected is currently unknown.
