With Star Wars Outlaws, developer Massive Entertainment is looking to deliver the ultimate Star Wars scoundrel fantasy, which, of course, means protagonist Kay Vess (and her adorable companion Nix) will be crossing paths with a number of different factions, the majority of them being criminal syndicates.

Much of what we’ve seen of the game so far has been focused on these syndicates and what they will bring to the table, and in a recent interview, creative director Julian Gerighty offered some more details on each of the game’s factions, which planets they’ll have most of their presence on, and what drives each of them- including syndicates that will be very familiar to fans of the franchise (likes the Hutts, the Pykes, and the Crimson Dawn) and entirely new ones that will be introduced to the Star Wars universe with Outlaws (like the Ashiga Clan).

“We tried to find locations that really represented a stronghold of one of the syndicates’ activities,” Gerighty explained. “So Toshara, which is the moon that we created with Lucasfilm Games, that’s a Pyke enclave. The Pykes are smugglers, they’re fairly brutal warlods, but they have their interest in smuggling routes. The Hutts, they’re based on Tatooine. Their leader, Jabba, is one of the canon characters that you’ll meet. They’re very brutal, what you see is what you get with the Hutts. But they’re very much concentrated on Tatooine.”

“You’ll also meet the Crimson Dawn, that are a little bit everywhere. And the Ashiga Clan that are based on Kijimi. The Ashiga Clan is an old dynasty that is looking to expand outside of Kijimi.”

In the same interview, Geirghty also spoke about Star Wars Outlaws’ Reputation system, and how Kay’s standing with different factions will affect things in both positive and negative ways. Read more on that through here.

Star Wars Outlaws launches on August 30 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
