After ending its open beta last year, Player First Games’ MultiVersus will fully launch next month. Alongside new characters, netcode changes, a PvE Mode, a shift to Unreal Engine 5 and more, several changes and new mechanics have been added. These include new Dash Attacks.

“This addition gives players more flexibility and creative possibility as it can be used to start a combo or be weaved into the middle of combo strings,” says the developer. Mashing forward twice and attacking unleashes it, making it viable as an opener and combo finisher. Parry is another new mechanic – the player who successfully executes it will recover faster than their opponent.

This allows for a counter-attack, though it “requires precise timing to pull off, and if you miss that timing, you could be left in a vulnerable spot.” Player First hopes the risk/reward nature adds “fun dimensions to how players can express themselves.”

All existing characters from the open beta are receiving some balance tuning and even new abilities (like Harley Quinn’s balloons, which now have a wider area and venture upwards).

“Digging a bit into the details, the hit volume, timing and placement of all hits have been adjusted for every move. Now, no matter which character you pick, their moves feel more precise and impactful. A lot of attention and care has gone into designing the MultiVersus character kits, and we’re looking forward to you getting your hands on these reworked characters.”

If that wasn’t enough, Player First has made several changes to improve clarity during combat, with color-coded outlines and icons for characters (who are also larger). The camera is also “more dynamic and will pan and zoom accordingly, depending on what is going on in-game.

“When you’re fighting an opponent 1v1, the camera will zoom in to bring you closer to the action, but when combat moves to the wider parts of the map, you’ll see the camera pull out to capture all the mayhem.” Unique animations and sound effects are also added to better indicate a character’s state.

MultiVersus is out on May 28th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC.
