Remember Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League? Rocksteady’s live service looter shooter hasn’t been doing so good, peaking at a measly 193 concurrent players on Steam in the last 24 hours (per SteamDB). Nevertheless, the development team is preparing Episode 2 of Season of the Joker, which goes live next month.
Several changes are in store, including a rework of Infamy Tiers, or more specifically, allowing all Infamy Sets and Notorious loot to drop from Mastery Level 1 onwards. No longer must you grind to a specific Mastery Level to get Tier 3 Infamy Sets, which is good.
Rocksteady is also changing how it designs each Tier of an Infamy Set. Instead of easier-to-use but less powerful sets at Tier 1 (in contrast with more challenging but stronger sets at Tier 3), Episode 2 will design each Tier 1 set around a “few specific playstyles.”
“You’ll see that one or two core mechanics are buffed, and keeping uptime on those buffs won’t be a challenge. That means optimal Tier 1 play will encourage you to master those specific core mechanics. If you can handle that, you’ll be able to reach damage outputs that were previously only possible with a Tier 3 set.”
Meanwhile, Tier 3 sets will be “the most flexible in terms of core mechanics – our goal is that you can leverage pretty much any playstyle using a Tier 3 set. However, it will be the most complex Infamy Set when it comes to uptime. You have to use all your skills to keep the buffs going, but the payoff will be that you have more freedom in which core mechanics to use. Tier 2 sits somewhere in the middle.”
Rocksteady will watch for feedback and tweak Infamy Sets in subsequent updates based on the same. Furthermore, Infamy and Notorious items will drop with an additional four Master grades, maxing out at five. Higher Mastery levels will drop loot with the highest Master grades, so there will still be a reason to grind them.
Stay tuned for more details on Episode 2 in the meantime. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Check out our review here and impressions of the (admittedly terrible) Season of the Joker launch here.
