Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown 1

Nacon’s Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown generated some concern following the dates for its console beta (the previously announced open beta is nowhere to be seen). The fact that it includes a work-in-progress Quality mode running at 30 FPS also rubbed some the wrong way.

Nevertheless, some new work-in-progress footage is available, highlighting many improvements made to the racing title. These include better graphics and lighting, physics improvements for grip driving and drifting, increased traffic density and more. The sense of speed also comes across as more exhilarating.

If that weren’t enough, the interior details are higher quality, with the player able to see their seat-belts and arms in first-person. Whether the final product will look even better is a toss-up, but at least this provides some reassurance.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is available September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC, with the console versions offering two graphical modes. The closed beta for Silver Streets/Sharps Edition owners runs from August 27th to 30th. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
