Assassin’s Creed Shadows Hopes to “Change the Narrative” Around Ubisoft’s “Inconsistency in Quality,” Series Boss Says

"Assassin's Creed Shadows represents our opportunity to change that narrative, not just for Assassin's Creed, but I think for Ubisoft as a whole," says Marc-Alexis Coté.

From Skull and Bones to Star Wars Outlaws, from Ghost Recon Breakpoint to Rainbow Six Extraction, there’s been no shortage of prominent Ubisoft releases in recent years that have been deemed disappointing by the masses, though the company is hoping for a reversal in fortunes with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The action RPG was recently delayed by a handful of months into February next year, and Marc-Alexis Coté – franchise boss for Assassin’s Creed at Ubisoft – has suggested that with said delay, the company is hoping the game will be able to “change the narrative” around Ubisoft’s inconsistent output.

“Players can afford to be selective, choosing only the best, and they rightfully demand excellence,” Coté said at a recent BAFTA event in London (via Eurogamer). “Ubisoft’s portfolio has faced criticism in recent years for a perceived inconsistency in quality.

“Players expect more polish, more innovation and deeper engagement from the games we release, and they’re not shy about letting us know when they feel we have fallen short. This environment pushes us to do better and to be better.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows represents our opportunity to change that narrative, not just for Assassin’s Creed, but I think for Ubisoft as a whole.”

Ubisoft has insisted that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is feature complete, and that the game was delayed so that its development team could be allowed added time to polish up the experience. When the open world title launches next year, it will also be available on Steam day 1, while Ubisoft has also dropped its Season Pass plans (which, in turn, has led to a price reduction for the Collector’s Edition).

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is due out on February 14, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Ubisoft is confident the game will not be delayed again.
