Nintendo has announced that one of its eShop promotional features, My Nintendo Gold Points, will be getting discontinued. From March 25th onwards, buying any game digitally off the Nintendo Switch eShop will no longer reward players with Gold Points. This will also apply to pre-orders for games after the date.

Players that buy physical copies of Nintendo Switch titles will also stop earning Gold Points for games released on or before the date. However, Gold Points that are yet to be redeemed from games can still be grabbed within a year of the title’s release date.

While this means that Gold Points will stop being given out, those that already have their Gold Points will still continue to have them for 12 months after they got them. The rate of earning Gold Points usually amounted to around 5 percent of the game’s price excluding taxes and discounts for digital purchases, while physical copies awarded players with 1 percent of the game’s price.

Those that still have their My Nintendo Gold Points saved up will still be able to use them to purchase new games or get discounted prices on titles through the eShop even after April 24. There is, however, a time limit of 12 months since the Gold Points were earned.

While Gold Points were rewarded to players for quite some time, March 2018 is when Nintendo started allowing players to actually use these Gold Points to purchase games off the Nintendo eShop.
