The wait for Half-Life 3 is so infamous and prolonged that knowledge of it transcends mediums. There has never been any shortage of purported rumours and speculation related to the shooter, the vast majority of which have been far from credible. Of late, however, developments have suggested that Half-Life 3 may indeed be in the works behind the scenes at long last.
In fact, Valve insider Tyler McVicker has claimed that Half-Life 3 is so far along in development that it is “playable end-to-end.” In a recently uploaded video (via VGC), the leaker claimed that the next instalment in Valve’s legendary franchise is developed under the codename HLX and unlike 2020’s Half-Life: Alyx, isn’t going to be a virtual reality game.
McVicker claims the game is currently being playtested “religiously and widely” and that, due to the extensive leaks that the aforementioned Alyx saw during development, Valve is currently keeping a much tighter lid on Half-Life 3. The game is reportedly “optimized” and “polished,” with the project being at a content-locked stage – or, at the very least, mechanic-locked.
The leaker guesses that Half-Life 3 could be announced this Summer and released in the Winter, though stresses that that much is purely speculation. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks and months.
