Marathon

Bungie’s Marathon has officially been delayed from September 23rd to a new unannounced date. In a new post on its official website, the developer revealed it arrived at this decision after closed alpha feedback and comments on social media and Discord.

“We know we need more time to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion. After much discussion within our Dev team, we’ve made the decision to delay the September 23rd release.”

A new release date will be announced this Fall, and in the months leading up to this, there will be more closed tests. Bungie is currently focused on improving the rewards from runs, adding “new types of loot” and dynamic events while providing “more tense and strategic” combat. That includes “more challenging and engaging AI encounters.”

You can also expect “increased visual fidelity,” a “darker tone” representative of the original trilogy’s themes, a better experience for solo and duo players, and .” And perhaps best of all, there will be proximity chat.

Marathon is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Bungie was recently embroiled in controversy over an ex-employee using an independent artist’s assets without her permission, reportedly leading to low morale at the studio. A roadmap is allegedly in the works for public playtests, so stay tuned for more updates.
