Revealing more details about how the multiplayer for the upcoming Battlefield 6 will work, DICE producer Alexia Christofi took to social media platform X to write about how players can make use of the in-game server browser. Noting that fans of the franchise are looking forward to using a server browser to look for persistent servers where a sense of community can be found thanks to the same players joining the game at different times, as well as the ability to filter servers by ping and population, Christofi detailed the server browser feature that will be available through Portal.

In her post, Christofi wrote about how Battlefield 6 won’t be hiding away the server browser behind several menus. Rather, it will be available right through Portal, which can be accessed directly through the game’s main menu. She also brought up the fact that servers hosted through portal can afford full XP so that players can still climb up the progression ranks, and that players will be able to use plenty of filtering and search options.

“I think our server browser solution answers all these wants,” she wrote. “Yes, it’s via portal and shows community experiences, but these can award full XP, will be front and center in our main menu, not hidden – and will allow you to filter and search for specific things you want. Again, more to share on this in the future – but seeing all your replies I think what we have caters to the majority of use cases. We can talk more about if/why it feels like it’s not enough at a later date!”

In another post responding to a Battlefield fan asking for more details, Christofi also pointed out that having servers hosted through Portal allows EA to better filter out servers that might exploit how much XP they give out to players. The game will also offer clear in-game indicators so that players can understand whether or not a server provides full XP.

Christofi had also previously confirmed that enabling crossplay on console versions of Battlefield 6 will first keep the matchmaking pool smaller by only looking for matches with other console players. However, if a match can’t be found through this, the matchmaking pool will then widen to also start including PC players.

“It’s crossplay on or off – but if crossplay is on we treat it as console preferred crossplay, so we’ll try and matchmake you with others playing on the console before falling back to full crossplay if we can’t find you a match with only/mostly console players,” wrote Christofi. Responding to another question about whether switching on crossplay will instantly prioritise both consoles or if the matchmaking pool will start out for the same system before then including the other, she replied by saying “Console no matter if PlayStation or Xbox!”

Battlefield 6 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 10. The game will also be getting a couple of beta tests, more details about which can be found here. In the meantime, also check out the PC hardware requirements to run the game.
