Developer 3DClouds has announced that its arcade-styled F1 racing game – Formula Legends – will be coming to PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch on September 18 for $19.99. A demo for the racing game is available on PC and all consoles except for the Switch. Check out the trailer announcing the release date below.

Coming in at a little over a minute long, it offers a glimpse at how Formula Legends hopes to revisit the history of motorsport racing, albeit with an arcade-style spin. Other features, including weather effects, various tracks, and fast-paced racing gameplay, are also showcased.

Formula Legends was officially unveiled back in June, and back then, the studio had revealed that quite a bit of the inspiration behind the game comes from 1960s-era motorsport racing. At launch, it will feature 16 unique models of vehicles spanning various eras of motorsport racing, from the 1960s to the modern day. Players will be able to hop into these vehicles and race them across 14 different circuit tracks, all of which were inspired by real-world courses from across the world.

While there will be plenty of focus on the on-track gameplay in Formula Legends, players will also have to deal with a fair number of complications, including weather effects like rain or dust clouds. Players will also have to make strategic use of their pit stops to manage various aspects of their vehicles, from deteriorating tyres down to their ever-dwindling fuel reserves.

The second-to-second racing will also have players managing various aspects of their vehicles while they’re on the move, including battery systems and other electronics. Players will also be able to catch up with their opponents by making use of techniques like slipstream, which will give them a speed boost by following their opponent’s racing line closely before then overtaking them.

The title will also include a Story Mode, which will put players in the cockpit of legendary cars as they relive what the studio refers to as “the defining moments of Formula racing”. Throughout the story mode, players will compete in championships based on the different eras.

It is worth noting that Formula Legends has been envisioned as a strictly single-player game. Instead of multiplayer, there are global leaderboards, as players take on the various courses in Time Attack modes. Players can also customise their car, and there will be full support for mods, like vehicle liveries, new helmets, custom graphics and trackside sponsors.
