While Ubisoft has been generally quiet about its development of Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, there have been plenty of details coming out through leaks and rumors. The latest one of these, courtesy of MP1st, gives us a look at what might be the upcoming title’s roster of characters. The report notes that these character names – likely to be placeholders to keep them secret – come from casting calls that were held from 2023 until earlier this year.
The casting call refers to the game’s main protagonist as “Petra”, and describes her as a “strong-willed, passionate woman in her mid-twenties.” Core character traits for her include being a dutiful daughter and having radical thoughts, which likely play a major role in her refusal to accept the role society forces on her. She will be joined by her two parents – “Brigitte” and “Konrad”.
Brigitte is set to be a compassionate and kind mother and midwife, and is noted as having a major role to play in the overarching story of Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. She might also tie into the links that Petra has to the Auditore bloodlines, making her a distant descendant of Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations protagonist Ezio Auditore.
Konrad, on the other hand, has been described as a religious and caring family man who finds orthodoxy to be quite important, and carries out what is referred to as a “dirty job”. The core cast of the historical story will be rounded out by the patriarchal and larger-than-life leader with a crude sense of humor, “Bruno”, the shrewd and ambitious schemer “Anton”, the protagonist’s mentor “Wolfgang”, the morally bankrupt yet wealthy manipulator “Johanna”, the shy and sensitive boy “Theo”, and the attractive, quick-witted, and arrogant young woman “Erika”.
A “Mother Gertrud” has also been mentioned in the report. A 65-year-old former village healer, Gertrude, seemingly became the center of the village’s wrath following a plague lacking any cure that ravaged the area. This led to many accusing her of being a witch, driving her into self-exile and isolation just for the sake of survival. Gertrude is also noted as having some ties with Petra’s family, since she previously trained Brigitte in herbalism. As Petra finds herself targeted by “The Order of the Lamb”, Gertrud seemingly steps in to offer her a safe haven.
Codename Hexe won’t be leaving behind the franchise’s modern-day trappings, and the story here will seemingly be headed by “Anna”, who has been described as an impatient and driven career woman who hopes to find success in a competitive working environment. Interestingly, she is noted as lacking any German heritage, which makes her inclusion in the story an interesting one.
More details about Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe – including an official title – will likely be revealed as we get closer to its still-unknown launch window. In the meantime, take a look at a report from earlier this month indicating its $70 price tag across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, as well as offering some details about its world’s structure and visual fidelity.
