BrokenLore: Ascend is a game that has us both excited to get started and apprehensive about what it has up its sleeve, since our experiences with the franchise’s past entries have been quite intense and terrifying.
The franchise is bringing new perspectives to the table, and Ascend takes us to the lives of Ren and Yui, daredevil streamers who take on increasingly challenging climbs for their channel SKYLIMIT. Their latest climb is Elysium Tower, Japan’s tallest, where we’ll be joining them. All we know is that there’s a monster inspired by the Yokurobi yokai from Japanese folklore waiting to mess with their stream, and more importantly, their psyches. Based on past titles, things could get messy right from the ground floor and only escalate from there.
It’s going to be a refreshing change of pace from Anne’s more grounded yet harrowing tale that spanned UNFOLLOW and FOLLOW, the latter of which we found to be a substantial improvement and a showcase of the growing confidence behind Serafini Productions as a studio. We hope Ascend continues along those lines, though the trailer’s glimpses of gameplay look promising. Stay tuned for more details and teases ahead of its launch in January 2027.
