Supermassive Games is reeling after layoffs of over 70 employees, but support for The Dark Pictures Anthology continues. Directive 8020, the latest title in the horror series, has received a free update that adds the long-awaited online multiplayer.
Up to five players can participate, and with the various locations, you can allocate one to each, or split the group in different arrangements. Custom Mode, despite the name, involves simply playing when it’s your turn.
Round Robin is more interesting because you have limited time before the game swaps to another player. And of course, you can vote on choices, with the results revealed afterwards. Unfortunately, crossplay isn’t available, and each player needs a separate copy.
This update includes 13 new Premonitions about forthcoming events, which should help keep you alive (or hasten your death if you ignore them). There’s also new DLC that adds retro-futuristic suits for the crew, in case you weren’t feeling fashionable enough while struggling to survive.
Directive 8020 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review, where we gave it an 8 due to the presentation and the paranoia in its sci-fi setup. On Metacritic, it’s currently at a 72 Metascore based on 61 reviews.
