This year’s Summer Game Fest had several high-profile titles, but Sega’s Virtua Fighter Crossroads, the newest iteration of the long-dormant fighting game series, made its mark. And if it feels like developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has been quiet ever since, a new tweet teased…something for October 29th, 8 AM PDT.
It’s not much to go on, but given the last showcase, we could be in for a lot of new information. Thus far, we know that Crossroads isn’t a simple sequel but a reimagining of the franchise, set in Vilasapara on Nusalibre Island. With multiple districts, from Chinatown to the voluminous jungle, players will have much to explore.
Which may sound weird to the average fan, since Virtua Fighter is a fighting game series. However, producer Riichiro Yamada actually considers it an “open sandbox RPG” with tons of side content, where you’ll encounter new fighters, including protagonists like Cielo Salinas and Stella Bridge. Don’t worry, as series regulars like Pai Chan, Wolf Hawkfield, and Akira Yuki will also appear.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads launches in 2027, with platforms yet to be announced. Perhaps RGG Studio and Sega will provide a concrete release window later this week? Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, check out the trailer for the Bakunawa Killer, a mysterious antagonist roaming the streets and targeting fighters.
