After debuting with exceptionally strong concurrent player numbers on Steam and rave reviews, S-Game’s Phantom Blade Zero has sold over four million copies. Even better, it achieved this milestone within 72 hours.
The action RPG topped three million wishlists across PS5 and PC in September, and reportedly sold close to one million before launch (over that figure when accounting for other storefronts). Granted, it’s far below Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong, which sold ten million copies in its first four days.
But it’s still an impressive milestone, especially compared to contemporaries like Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and The Blood of Dawnwalker. On Steam, Phantom Blade Zero set a new peak concurrent player record yesterday at 833,921 and became the 14th highest-played title in the platform’s history. Not bad for what’s essentially a relatively unknown (if not new) IP.
For more details on Phantom Blade Zero, check out our review. We gave it a 9 for its combat, which starts a little slow but ramps up after the opening hours, whether it’s weapon selection or boss fights. The presentation is top-notch throughout, while the somewhat limited exploration (at least in the first two regions) expands significantly with interesting side quests and hidden bosses.
