As Blizzard Entertainment gets ready for the launch of World of Warcraft: Forever, the studio has released a brand-new trailer that provides a comprehensive overview of what players can expect from the MMORPG. The trailer, which you can check out below, clocks in at more than 30 minutes in length and offers details on classes, talents, PvE content like dungeons and raids, PvP systems, and even brand-new things like the Legacy system and campfires.
World of Warcraft: Forever is meant to be a fresh take on the MMORPG as it existed in 2004. The title has been created with the design decisions and goals of its original incarnation in mind, and as such, offers a back-to-basics approach to newcomers and veterans alike. To make the fresh journey from level 1 to 60 smoother, it also features more than a thousand brand-new quests, as well as other content to help along the way, like new dungeons and zones.
Since the original World of Warcraft can look quite dated at times, Blizzard has also made use of modern technology to improve lighting and even add weather effects across the world of Azeroth, making just about every zone in the game more atmospheric. The draw distance has also been increased, which means that players can look at the horizon to spot faraway zones. An example of this, as provided in the trailer, is how World Tree Nordrassil is visible atop Mount Hyjal all the way from The Barrens.
As for the changes to individual classes, while there are too many to count here, a key thing to keep in mind is that just about every talent specialization has been made a viable option in World of Warcraft: Forever. While the original incarnation of the MMORPG only favored Warriors as the de facto tank, with Druids, Shamans, and Paladins largely being restricted to the healer roles, Forever has seen these classes’ other specializations get buffed up. This means that tanking Feral Druids and damage-dealing Retribution Paladins will likely start being more commonplace.
Speaking of which, World of Warcraft: Forever also introduces new race/class options. Alliance players can make a Dwarf Shaman, for example, while the Horde gets access to the Paladin as an option for Undead. A new race has also been added to the game – the Skyborne Elves. These elves have their own class options depending on whether they are joining the Alliance or the Horde, with the former getting Skyborne Mages, and the latter getting Skyborne Shamans.
With one of the core decisions behind World of Warcraft: Forever being an emphasis on social interaction, the new campfire system has been created to encourage players to hang around and chat for a bit around a cozy fire. Doing so will provide buffs that can boost the amount of experience gained, as well as other stat boosts depending on the professions of the characters.
World of Warcraft: Forever is available only on PC and is part of a regular World of Warcraft subscription, which also includes the Classic Era games, as well as the modern World of Warcraft: Midnight, assuming you’ve bought the latest expansion. Accessing the Skyborne in Forever requires a separate one-time purchase.
