Sony sued over other OS removal

Posted By | On 29th, Apr. 2010

Sony had recently removed support for other operating systems on the PlayStation 3, resulting in many PS3 owners getting pretty annoyed. One gamer, Anthony Ventura, of California, was so vexed by the removal of the alternate OS support that he has filed a suit at the United States District Court.

The suit is centered around “intentional disablement of the valuable functionalities originally advertised as available with the Sony Playstation 3 video game console.”

The suit claims that the disablement breaches the sales contract between Sony and its customers and constitutes “an unfair and deceptive business practices perpetrated on millions of unsuspecting customers”.

Sony is currently claiming that they had the right to remove the OS support since they make the user sign the EULA agreement at the press of a button, whenever a new firmware update has to be installed on the PlayStation 3.

Anthony is not the only disappointed PlayStation 3 owner around; there are reports incoming that Amazon had refunded a PlayStation 3 after the owner complained it was not doing what it was supposed to do. There is also New York law firm which is currently preparing a class action suit against Sony.
