Dragon’s Dogma ships 1 million, Capcom optimistic about its future

Dragon’s Dogma is one of the best games of this generation. “But Kartik,” you say. “The Metacritic is so and so, how is it one of the best games of this generation?” – Because it is. Here’s why.

Capcom has announced that Dragon’s Dogma, their first attempt at making a RPG of this scale, has shipped 1 million copies. Is that good? – Nope. But they had projected 1.5 million copies, and we don’t know how the sell-through is.

It should reach 1.5 million eventually, but the thing to note here is that, the game was positively mentioned by Capcom in its press release, and they intent to make it into a big franchise. It’s also Capcom’s 55th title to reach 1 million sales.

“Dragon’s Dogma” is part of Capcom’s basic strategy of establishing game franchises through the creation of new brands,” the press release reads. “This game was developed with the goal of creating another pillar of earnings for Capcom alongside “Monster Hunter” and “Sengoku BASARA”. To further increase the value of brands used for its content, Capcom will continue to utilize a variety of initiatives that include the continuous distribution of downloadable content.”
