UPDATE: During the Sega Fan Meet-up 2020 kicking off Sega’s TGS 2020 schedule, Ayana Tsubaki stated that her previous comments had been made due to a misunderstanding regarding the event’s planning, and corrected herself saying that what will instead be revealed will be “latest information” of the Yakuza series (via DualShockers).

Original story follows:

The Yakuza series’ output has been excellent over the past few years, in terms of both quality and quantity. Its newest instalment, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, is due out in the West later this year (after having released in Japan in January), but it seems developers Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and publishers Sega are already ready for whatever comes next.

A new Yakuza game will be announced during the Sega broadcast at Tokyo Game Show 2020 in two days’ time, on September 27. This was mentioned by the panel’s co-host Ayana Tsubaki in a tweet. That tweet has since been deleted, which means Tsubaki spilled the beans on something that wasn’t supposed to be public knowledge, but you can view an archive of that tweet through here (via Gematsu).

It’s interesting that Sega are already ready to announce the next Yakuza game. Yakuze: Like a Dragon is still very fresh and hasn’t even released in most of the world, so it seems unlikely that the next mainline title will be announced so soon. What could this announcement be then? A remake? A spinoff? A remake of a spinoff? Either way, we’ll find out soon enough.

Meanwhile, Yakuza: Like a Dragon will release for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10, and on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 13. The game will also launch for PS5 at a later date.

In other news, a live action Yakuza movie is also in the works, and will focus on the original series protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. Read more on that through here.
