Ace Combat 7 is an upcoming combat flight simulator. The game is being developed by Project Aces and will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is going to come to the PS4 exclusively and will be offered on the PlayStation VR.
The game is part of what is now a long-running series in the Ace Combat line. Ace Combat 7 is considered a direct sequel to Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. Ace Combat 7 is going to run on the Unreal Engine 4.
Development
Ace Combat 7 was officially announced on December 5, 2015. Bandai Namco announced they were publishing the game and for the first time in the franchise’s history it will be featured on a current generation console. Xbox One users are out of luck at the moment, however because this game is going to be coming only to the PS4. At the announcement press conference the company announced it would also be playable on the PSVR and will have several different modes with virtual reality capabilities.
A few days after the initial announcement of the game, Bandai Namco released a set of in-game screenshots and divulged the reveal trailer was using real-time game footage. The screenshots were captured in high-quality 4K resolution. The company said it is using Unreal Engine 4 in order to build game and it is also incorporating trueSKY technology in order to make the game that much more realistic.
The development team has brought on several writers that have contributed to other titles in the Ace Combat series. Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War and Ace Combat Infinity Scenario Writer Kosuke Itomi has been brought on board to help write the plot for this new game in the series. Longtime Composer Keiki Kobayashi and Ace Combat 5 Scenario Writer Sunao Katabuchi will also be a part of the team.
After the announcement of the game last December, news about the game became almost non-existent. In September of 2016, the title’s director, Kazutoki Kono took to Twitter to ask fans of the Ace Combat series to remain patient because more information would be coming soon. As of the end of October, 2016 there still has not been any information about an expected release date.
Story
Almost nothing is known about what kind of story lines will be present in Ace Combat 7. The game’s development team has said this will be a “true sequel” to Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. This does sound like a continuation of that story in some way, shape or form. The previous version of the game featured a cold war that eventually turned into a hot war between two fictional nations.
One of the aspects of the earlier game is that the governments of the countries that were at war were changed in order to gain peace. It would make sense if these countries went back to war over some other kind of change. Whether or not the characters that were in the last game will be included in this one is unknown.
Since this is a direct sequel to the previous game, it stands to reason this title will take place in the Strangereal universe that has been created specifically for this game series.
Gameplay
While the gameplay for Ace Combat 7 is not yet known, the development team has talked about the game being a direct sequel and will likely have many of the same types of gameplay mechanics as its immediate predecessor. Most of the gameplay for the titles in this series have largely taken place in the cockpit of various fighter jets and other airborne craft.
These aircraft have the ability to get into dogfights with other pilots, as well as take out targets on the ground. In the past, the jets have been outfitted with a number of different weapons that include high-powered machine guns, missiles and even Vulcan cannons. There are also some air to surface weapons that have been used in order to take out ground targets.
There also hasn’t been any discussion about what game modes will be included in Ace Combat 7 beyond the single player story mode. Previous titles in the series have included some variation on a couple of multiplayer modes that are very similar to deathmatch and team deathmatch. The game’s immediate predecessor, Ace Combat 6 had four multiplayer modes called Battle Royale, Siege Battle, Team Battle, and Co-Op Battle.
The development team has said those who are using PSVR will be able to get an experience that will make them feel like they are in the cockpit of a fighter jet. There hasn’t yet been any confirmation about how many hours the VR experience for Ace Combat 7 is going to be or whether this will be a separate mode or part of the game.
Planes
Other than the announcement that Ace Combat 7 will have some of the most advanced war fighters in the world, there has not been any kind of list of the planes so far that will be included in the game.
Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.
