The Xbox Scorpio was finally revealed to some degree yesterday – we know what the specs and performance gains for the new system will be, but we don’t yet know the final name, release date, or even what the console looks like – which means Microsoft now no longer has to speak in tantalizing vague hints, and can instead speak to users directly about the fruits of their labor.
Speaking to fans directly on Twitter yesterday, Microsoft’s Head of Product Development Albert Penello did exactly that. Sounding proud of the work that his team had pulled, Penello noted that the Scorpio was exactly what Microsoft had promised at E3 last year.
“There is so much more to Project Scorpio than just the numbers. It’s a huge leap ahead of any other console,” he said. “Going back and watching [the reveal] video from [last] E3 makes me super emotional. I think today we delivered what we promised.”
It is hard to doubt that Microsoft did live up to its word as far as the hardware goes- the Scorpio is indeed a class apart from anything else on the market. The team at Xbox can take pride in their work. Now, we just need some compelling games that will actually make some meaningful use of all this power that the Scorpio has. Then, and only then, will the Scorpio be appealing to the general customer.
