The origins of Mario’s overalls
2D art is never easy and drawing a character can be very tedious. Shigeru Miyamo had a tough time creating Mario and ultimately decided that Mario should wear overalls. Drawing a character is one thing, but animating the character is a whole different ball game, as every frame must be in detail as the previous frame. The developers wanted Mario to run properly, and as such thought it would be best to make his arms and his body different colors. Then they had a brainstorm, why not have Mario in overalls, since the first game was also based in a construction site.
