Angry Birds Web Cartoon Series Announced for March 16th

The Birds finally get backstory, premiering on Rovio's site.

In its further bid for global domination, Rovio has recently announced that Angry Birds will be made into a web cartoon series to premiere on the site on March 16th.

The animation is suspected to be handled by Kombo Animation, which Rovio purchased in June 2011. The series itself will delve more into the backstory of the Angry Birds and Pigs, as well as explain their motivations more.

Because what the series was missing was exposition.

Earlier, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed told the Wall Street Journal that Rovio would be distributing the series. “Previously content creators were reliant on others who had the channel. The content itself is the channel. We have become the channel.”

He also stated to Kombo around the time that, “whatever you do, please make an animated series people will still want to watch 50 years from now.” That’s a tall order but there’s no denying the popularity of the franchise at present.
