The charts for retail game sales in the UK for the first full week of 2021 are in, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons has started the new year on top of the charts, where it was for much of 2020 as well (via GamesIndustry). In fact, the Nintendo Switch is the most dominant console in this week’s charts where software sales are concerned.

Over 260,000 physical games were sold in the UK last week (likely bolstered by the resurgent lockdown restrictions), a third more than the numbers for the concurrent week of 2020, and Nintendo Switch software was the main driver for this growth. In fact, Switch game sales are up 123% over the concurrent 2020 year. The likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Just Dance 2021, Ring Fit Adventure, Minecraft (Switch), and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe are all in the top 10.

FIFA 21 has dropped down to fourth place from second place last week, while Assassin’s Creed Valhalla comes in at No. 5. Grand Theft Auto 5 on No. 8 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in tenth place round out the top 10.
