Ubisoft has confirmed in a recent earnings call that Assassin’s Creed wouldn’t be seeing a new game later this year and that the series may not even be an annual release for the time being.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that, “We saw it was time to give it lots of time so [developers] could really work on the property and all the mechanics to make sure we could take [the series] to another level. What we are seeing today is promising. We will be able to come on a regular basis [but] we can’t say every year.”

The publisher isn’t abandoning plans to make the series annual. CFO Alain Martinez said that if things work out and the next game is innovative enough that there could be a return to the annual release model.

Rumours indicate that the next Assassin’s Creed will take place in Egypt. What are your thoughts on the franchise not releasing annually for the near future? Let us know in the comments.
