A new Assassin’s Creed game selling like hot cakes isn’t exactly unprecedented, to say the least, but Assassin’s Creed Shadows seems to have got off to an impressive start even by the franchise’s usual standards. Ubisoft recently announced that the game had crossed 2 million players in its first two days, which is looking like a major victory for multiple reasons.
As per VGC, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the second-biggest Assassin’s Creed launch of all time, while Insider Gaming claims in a separate report that the action RPG is Ubisoft’s second-biggest launch. Both reports, citing internal sales data provided by anonymous sources, peg the game behind 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the respective metrics. It’s worth mentioning, however, that unlike past Assassin’s Creed games, which launched in busier year-end periods, Shadows has enjoyed its high sales in the relatively slower March period.
As per Insider Gaming, Assassin’s Creed Shadows stands at 2.2 million players in two days, compared to 2.55 million for Valhalla on its first. The report also claims Shadows is on track to hit 6 million players within its first month. In that same period, Odyssey reportedly had 3.4 million players (and currently stands at over 40 million), while Valhalla had over 8 million.
Meanwhile, VGC’s report adds that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has enjoyed Ubisoft’s best ever launch on the PlayStation Store, and that 27 percent of all of its “activations” were on PC, a significant chunk of which was on Steam. It is reportedly also Ubisoft’s most wishlisted game to date, and saw the best start for a Ubisoft title on Twitch with a total watch time of over 11 million hours on day 1.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Read our review of the game through here.
