Developer Gameplay Group International has announced that the Xbox Series X/S version of its latest fighting game – Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game – has been delayed. In a statement shared through social media, the studio cited “unforeseen circumstances” while working on a backend feature as the reason behind the delay. As a result, the Xbox Series X/S release has been delayed to September 3rd, and existing pre-orders will remain active.
The studio has also provided some more details about the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which is only available in the form of a standard edition. Along with this, the title won’t have cross-platform multiplayer and language localization beyond English. It said that it is working on bringing more localization and crossplay options to the platform, as well as a Deluxe Edition upgrade.
“Our priority is delivering the best possible experience on every platform, and we are working tirelessly to make that happen,” said the studio. “Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We’re excited to get everyone into the fight as soon as possible.”
In the meantime, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is making its way to PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch today. It was unveiled all the way back in October 2025, when Gameplay Group International also gave us our first look at its hand-drawn art style that mimics the visual aesthetics of the two animated shows. At launch, the game has 12 playable characters, with more planned for release at a later date through a seasonal content model. Fans of multiplayer will also be happy to hear that the studio has included “best-in-class net code” for online play.
The announcement trailer confirmed that fan-favorite characters like Aang, Korra, Zuko, Toph, Katara, and Azula would all be present in its roster at launch. It also showcased how Aang could go into his full Avatar mode, which indicated that other characters might also have some tricks up their sleeves to gain advantages in their fights.
Earlier today, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game got a new trailer that provided a better explanation for its various game modes and features. Offline players can experience the Story, Arcade, and Training modes, as well as a Gallery where they can check out artwork. A Combo Trial mode is also available to provide training for the game’s various mechanics across its different characters.
When it comes to multiplayer, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game includes Casual and Ranked options, complete with rollback netcode to ensure that fights go smoothly without latency affecting things too badly.
For more details, take a look at our review of the PS5 version, where we gave it a score of 9 out of 10. We praised its approachable-yet-deep combat system and diverse and balanced roster, while pointing out that its tutorials do a poor job of teaching the core gameplay systems to genre newcomers, as well as the fact that even the Story mode starts things off with a character that some might find to be a bit too complex.
